There are two primary ways to navigate through the modules on the Modules page of the Orientation site. Below is a guide for each method and when best to use a particular navigation.

Expanding and Collapsing Modules

When you view the Modules page for the first time, by default, all of the modules will be expanded. To make navigation easier, you can expand or collapse the modules at both the Modules page level and the module level.

At the Modules page level, you can click the Collapse All button, which will collapse all of the modules. After collapsing all of the modules, the button will display as an Expand All button that can then be used to expand every module on the page. At the module level, you can click Expand or Collapse arrow next to the module title to either expand or collapse an individual module. Note: Only the Expand or Collapse arrows are available when viewing the Modules page on a mobile device using the Canvas Student app.

Canvas will remember which modules you expanded or collapsed so that when you leave the Modules page (or the course) and then return to it, the most recent configuration will display. Canvas will also direct you to the first module on the page that is expanded. For example, if Module 3 is the first module expanded on your Modules page, you will be directed to that module upon returning to the page. If no modules are expanded, Canvas will direct you to the first module at the top of the page.

Page-to-Page Navigation

The first way to navigate through the module items is to use the navigation buttons at the bottom of each page. After entering a module, which you can do through the Modules tool in the site menu, and clicking on an item, you can advance to the next item in the module by clicking on the Next button or go back to the previous item by clicking the Previous button.

The button navigation will allow you move through the sections in a module (Overview, Topics) and between modules. This type of navigation is ideal to use when starting a module and then working through the material in a sequential order, an item at a time.

Note: When using the Canvas Student app, the button navigation may appear differently depending on your mobile device's operating system, e.g., on Android devices the navigation may appear as angle brackets (< and >).

Modules Page Navigation

The second way to navigate through the module items is to use the Modules tool, which is located in the course menu. After clicking on the tool, you will be redirected to the Modules page, which displays all the site content (in modules).

In the list of items in a module, click on an item to go directly to that item. This type of navigation is ideal to use:

When you want to jump around to different modules or topics within a module
When you want to access a specific page
